The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has raised alarms about the declining voter turnout in the Volta Region.

During his four-day tour of the region, Mr. Asiedu Nketia emphasized the importance of securing a substantial number of votes from this area, which is traditionally regarded as the party’s stronghold, to enhance their chances in the upcoming December 7 polls. He urged party supporters to mobilize and vote in large numbers.

He cautioned party members against complacency, stressing the necessity for every registered voter in the region to participate in the election.

“I’m not here to teach you how to vote correctly, but I am appealing to you to avoid complacency,” he stated.

He added, “If you live in Tongu, you might assume that one vote doesn’t matter and choose to tend to your farm, thinking others will vote for us and Gabby (the parliamentary candidate) will win. That’s not the end of the story; there are people who will vote against us elsewhere—so we need to gather all the votes to offset those from our opponents.”

Mr. Asiedu Nketia further stressed, “The turnout in the Volta Region is a matter of concern to us,” highlighting the responsibility of party members to vote not only for the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, but also for the various parliamentary candidates. He cautioned against the practice of ‘skirt and blouse’ voting.

On the final day of his tour, Mr. Asiedu Nketia is scheduled to engage with chiefs and party members in the Ketu North, Ketu South, Anlo, and South Tongu constituencies.
