Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of Ghana’s opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for the immediate arrest of those responsible for the violence during the 2020 general elections.
He made this statement during his campaign tour in the Banda constituency, emphasizing that the NDC will not engage in peace talks with the peace council until justice is served for the victims of election-related violence.

The 2020 elections saw significant unrest, resulting in loss of lives and property damage.
Nketiah highlighted the government’s failure to arrest perpetrators of violence, particularly referencing the deaths of eight individuals in Techiman and a teacher named Silas Wulechemy in Banda.
He expressed that this lack of action has led to widespread distrust of the government and security agencies.
Nketiah promised that if the NDC comes to power, they will ensure that those responsible for election violence are held accountable, stating, “no one will be above the law.”
He also urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to take action regarding the murder of Silas Wulechemy.
The chief of Bui, Nana Kojo Wuo II, also called for unity among political leaders and urged them to make realistic promises during their campaigns to prevent further violence.
