The Asokwa Municipal Assembly has firmly denied claims that Nana Addo Boaman, the Chief of Nahinso, was arrested for conducting road works in the area.

The Assembly explained that the Chief had used road works as a cover after filling a wetland near a pylon with laterite without proper authorization.

On Thursday, tensions escalated following a heated dispute between National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) officials and the Chief, who is accused of encroaching on a wetland.

While some residents believe the Chief’s actions will help prevent flooding, others are concerned. The Chief asserts that his work aims to address flooding, but NADMO officials argue that it could have long-term adverse effects on the wetland.

In the presence of officials from NADMO, GRIDCo, the Assembly, and police, Chief Nana Addo Boaman defended his actions, stating that he was improving both the wetland and parts of a damaged road.

Municipal Chief Executive for Asokwa, Akunuasah Gyimah, stated that the laws on wetland protection will be strictly enforced, regardless of an individual’s status.
