The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asuogyaman, Godwin Bobobee, has urged residents to use water responsibly following the commissioning of the $800,000 Asikuma Home Water Station, a project set to provide safe and reliable water for over 3,000 people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bobobee commended Safe Water Network (SWN) for its investment in treating and distributing potable water to the community. He also announced additional projects in the district, including the construction of 15 mechanised boreholes and new water facilities for selected senior high schools, Akwamufie, and other communities this year.

The Asikuma station, completed in three phases between 2021 and 2024, now delivers piped water to more than 400 homes, schools, health centres, and small businesses. Each connection is fitted with mobile money-enabled prepaid meters to ensure convenient payments and sustainable management.

SWN Country Director, Charles Nimako, described the facility as more than just infrastructure, calling it a symbol of “health, dignity, and opportunity” for the people of Asikuma. He explained that all revenues from water sales would remain within the community to fund operations and future repairs.

SWN’s Founding CEO, Kurt Soderlund, emphasized the importance of community ownership, urging residents to safeguard Lake Volta and maintain the system. “Above all, I hope everyone, especially children, can grow up healthy with safe water,” he said.

With the new addition, SWN now operates 112 water stations in Ghana, serving over 150 communities and reaching about 510,000 people, including nearly 15,000 direct household connections.

Safe Water Network, a not-for-profit organization, works with government, the private sector, and local leaders to deliver sustainable water solutions that improve health, empower communities, and support economic growth.
