Former Minister for Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect a flagbearer with a calm and suitable temperament to lead the party.
Speaking to party members at Mpraeso in the Eastern Region, Mr. Atta Akyea cautioned delegates against choosing a candidate who could embarrass Ghana on the global stage.
Let’s not make a mistake and elect someone who will insult world leaders when he travels to the United Nations,” he said.
He further appealed to delegates to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who he said possesses “the temperament, maturity and statesmanship required to engage constructively with the international community.”
The NPP is scheduled to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer for the next general elections. Dr. Bawumia is among five aspirants contesting the slot.
The other contenders are former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former General Secretary of the party Kwabena Agyepong.
