Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga has criticized Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, accusing him of prioritizing his title over advancing government business in Parliament.
Ayariga’s comments came after the majority caucus failed to attend a session they had initially requested, leading Speaker Alban Bagbin to adjourn the sitting in frustration.

Following the adjournment, Afenyo-Markin criticized Speaker Bagbin, accusing him of “supervising chaos” for calling the session without proper planning.
In an interview with Eyewitness News, Ayariga countered Afenyo-Markin’s remarks, arguing that the Majority Leader’s focus on seating arrangements and procedural disputes was misplaced and distracted from addressing crucial issues in Parliament.
“What does the business committee meeting have to do with seating arrangements? I have always said Afenyo-Markin is not interested in government business; he is only focused on his position as Majority Leader,” Ayariga stated.
He continued, “If I were Majority Leader and faced a situation like Afenyo-Markin’s, I wouldn’t care about where I sit. I would prioritize bringing government business to the House and ensuring that members discuss it.
The issues of majority, minority, and numbers matter only when it comes to decision-making. Everything else can proceed regardless of seating positions.”
Meanwhile, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong explained that the absence of New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs was unintentional.
He attributed the delay to an unforeseen hold-up during a caucus meeting, clarifying that the MPs were unaware the parliamentary session had begun.
He emphasized that their absence was not a deliberate act of protest or defiance but rather a result of miscommunication within the caucus.
