Former Dreams FC midfielder Aziz Issah narrowly missed out on the Goal of the Year award at the 2024 CAF Awards, with Angola’s Mabululu claiming the top honor.

Issah’s stunning long-range goal against Angola’s APC Lobito in last season’s CAF Confederation Cup earned a spot among the final 11 nominations.

However, his goal faced fierce competition, with contenders such as Aboubakari Koita (Mauritania), Denis Omedi (Kitara FC), Ibrahim Adel (Mauritania), Kevin Pina (Cape Verde), Mabululu (Angola), Nene Dorgeles (Mali), Said Benrahma (Algeria), Sebastien Haller (Côte d’Ivoire), Wessam Abou Ali (Al Ahli), and Yassine Benzia (Algeria).

Mabululu’s winning goal—a curler against Namibia in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations—secured him 121,192 votes, while Issah finished second-to-last with just 4,512 votes.

Aziz Issah played a crucial role in Dreams FC’s semi-final run in the CAF Confederation Cup, scoring four goals and providing two assists. His standout performances led to a loan move to La Liga giants FC Barcelona in the summer.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus was the sole Ghanaian player recognized at the 2024 CAF Awards, earning a place in the prestigious CAF 11.
