The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the March 3 Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, has drawn number one on the ballot paper, placing him at the top for voters.

His main rival, Yussif Baba Ali of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured the number three spot, while the Liberal People’s Party (LPP) candidate, Ibrahim Iddrisu, drew number two.

Independent candidates Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Sanda and David Kannor will appear in positions four and five, respectively.

The balloting was conducted at the constituency’s Electoral Commission office in Accra on Thursday, February 12, following the successful filing of nominations on Wednesday, February 11.

The by-election was triggered by the death of sitting MP Mahama Naser Toure in January while receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, Baba Jamal expressed confidence in his ballot position, describing it as a sign of victory.

Meanwhile, independent candidate Mohammed Umaru Sanda explained that his decision to contest the seat was motivated by calls from constituents who believe he is best placed to address their concerns.

The March 3 by-election will determine who represents the Ayawaso East constituency in Parliament.
