Seth Panwum, the Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, has confirmed that Baba Yara Sports Stadium is 70% prepared to host Ghana’s upcoming match against Sudan.

He made this announcement during his appearance before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Youth, and Culture on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

According to Panwum, the pitch is in a condition that meets the standards necessary for a CAF inspection and approval, which will allow the stadium to host Ghana’s game in October.

“… No activities, other than sporting events, will take place until we can secure pitch covers. It’s common in other countries; for instance, Wembley is used for concerts, but they ensure that the pitch is protected with covers,” he stated.

He added that he has discussed with the finance minister through the sector minister about finding urgent support, noting, “We are also required to generate revenue, but our game proceeds are insufficient to meet the expectations set by members of parliament.”

The NSA Board Chairman also revealed that GH¢900,000 was generated from renting the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for church events before Ghana’s match against Angola.
