In his Christmas and New Year message, Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, called on political stakeholders and citizens to accept the results of the 2024 general elections with humility, stressing the importance of unity and development.
His comments followed the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s decisive victory, with John Dramani Mahama reclaiming the presidency and securing a parliamentary majority, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia suffered significant losses.
LBagbin expressed hope that the nation’s challenges in governance and democracy will serve as valuable lessons for progress in 2025.
The Speaker also urged all Ghanaians to prioritize national unity as a foundation for progress, emphasizing that collaboration and solidarity are essential for the country’s post-election development.
“I am happy that God has intervened in a rather very difficult elections in this country. None of us thought that this would be the outcome of the 2024 general elections. But as God will have it, it has happened. My call to every one of us is to accept the results in humility…To agree that this is how the Almighty God wants it to be and for us to reflect.
“…To think deeply into our souls and ourselves to see what went wrong and what went right for each and every one of us and also for the country and for us to come together to build a nation because without a nation we are living in silos.
“We are living in tribes. We will be divided and that will give room for hatred and as you know the devil will play its role. I think it is important for us to come together. I think it is important for us to continue to be open to each other. I think it is important for us to dialogue and to try and use peaceful means, the rule of law to resolve our differences,” he said.
