Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has raised concerns over the Appointments Committee’s apparent disregard for established procedures in its handling of President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial nominees.
Bagbin revealed that his office has received several complaints expressing dissatisfaction with the committee’s conduct, with some suggesting that its actions are damaging its reputation.

In a formal communication to Parliament on January 28, the Speaker stressed the importance of adhering to procedural guidelines to maintain the integrity of the Appointments Committee.
“Appointments Committee, we have crafted rules of how Appointments Committee should conduct the business of public hearing. That is the term used, public hearing of nominees of the presidents. I am not too sure there is reference to those rules in what I am witnessing myself.
“And I have received so many complaints from observers in Ghana and outside Ghana. This is an opportunity for me to draw your attention to it.”
