Bank of Ghana organizes a high-level fintech networking event in Washington, DC

To highlight the necessity for the global community to enhance collaboration with Ghana and Africa in order to unlock the potential of financial technology (fintech), the Bank of Ghana, in partnership with the organizers of DC Fintech Week 2024, held a high-level networking event for leaders on Monday, October 24, 2024, at the Hay-Adams in Washington, DC.

This event coincided with the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings.

Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, facilitated the discussions, while Her Excellency Hajia Alima Mahama, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, served as the Guest of Honour.

Also present were senior officials from the Bank of Ghana, Mr. Romeo Bugyei, Chairman of the Ghana Technology Chamber, and Dr. Henry Benyah, Chairman of FastPace Transfer Limited.

The gathering attracted senior policymakers, regulators, private sector representatives, and other key players in the U.S. fintech policy community to explore mutual interests between both countries.

The guided discussions were led by notable figures including Prof. Chris Brummer, founder of DC FinTech Week; Charla Ouertatani, Director of the House Financial Services Committee; Mr. Kwame A. Oppong, Director of FinTech and Innovation at the Bank of Ghana; and Mr. Dante Disparte, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global Policy at Circle.
