One more person has been killed in Bawku following a new outbreak of violence, raising the death toll to 26 since the conflict reignited in late October 2024.

Despite the imposition of a strict 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. curfew aimed at containing the unrest, armed gunmen have continued to flout the restrictions, launching attacks that have exacerbated tensions in the region.

The ongoing violence has led to the closure of some schools and severely impacted businesses, as residents remain on edge, fearing further clashes.

On Tuesday, November 12, violent confrontations in Bawku’s Daduri suburb resulted in two fatalities and left several others injured.

The clashes included a gunfight that led to two houses being set on fire, deepening the region’s security crisis.

In response to the escalating violence, many residents have started fleeing the area.

Recently, six buses, accompanied by military escorts, were seen transporting evacuees from Bawku to Bolgatanga for their safety.

The resurgence of violence has been linked to the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre from exile and recent ambushes targeting travelers, further stoking tensions in the area.
