Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on party members to set aside blame and prioritize unity following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Addressing party executives in Klottey Korley, Dr. Bawumia highlighted voter apathy among NPP supporters as a significant factor in the loss.

He noted that the election outcome indicated the NPP’s failure to mobilize its base, rather than a major surge in support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) compared to 2020.

He urged members to avoid finger-pointing during this challenging time, cautioning that such actions could further divide the party. Instead, he encouraged solidarity to rebuild and prepare for future successes.

“I know the party members are sad at the moment, we are in pain. I’ve seen many people in pain. But I have an abiding belief in God and I know that His ways are not our ways, we don’t question it. So, sometimes he puts us on paths we don’t understand. But one thing for all of you to know is that His plans are best for you.

“You don’t blame people in your state of pain. The blame game will destroy us. Let us come together. We all know that the power was given to them [NDC] by us, so we work in ways to make us united. Once we are united with a goal, we are going to win in 2028. Once again, stop the blame game and let’s unite. Let us look at the future.

“…At this stage, we are looking at building the party again. It’s not about the individual ambition,” he stated.
