Bawumia pledges to make data and mobile phones more affordable

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has promised to make mobile phones and data more affordable for Ghanaians if he wins the presidency.

During a campaign rally in the Nhyiaeso constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia unveiled plans to waive import duties on mobile phones.

The goal of this initiative is to make mobile devices more accessible, especially to the youth who depend on them for education, business, and communication.

He also shared his vision to transform Ghana into a leading digital hub in Africa. Dr. Bawumia emphasized that under a new NPP administration, significant investments will be made in the telecommunications sector to lower the cost of data and improve nationwide internet access.

“I know that everyone likes Mobile Phones so, therefore, I am going to decrease the prices of mobile phones, there will be no duties on Mobile Phones imports.

“We are eliminating the import duties on Mobile Phones so that Mobile phones will be Affordable. And also we are going to bring down the cost of data for our youth”.

This promise forms part of a broader strategy by the NPP to integrate technology into Ghana’s development framework and empower citizens through improved digital infrastructure.
