Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has promised to establish an Airport City in Manhyia North, an ambitious project that would be modeled after the successful Airport City in Accra, should he be elected president in the upcoming December 2024 elections.
Addressing supporters on the third day of his Ashanti Region tour on Wednesday, Dr. Bawumia shared his vision for the development of the region, noting that the establishment of an Airport City in Manhyia North would transform the area into a major commercial and industrial hub.

He drew on his prior experience in overseeing the development of the Kumasi and Tamale airports, highlighting his leadership role in negotiating with the UK government for the construction of these airports.
Bawumia emphasized that the proposed Airport City in Manhyia North would bring significant economic opportunities to the region, including job creation, increased investments, and the development of essential infrastructure.
He added that it would help harness the region’s strategic position and improve access to both domestic and international markets, contributing to the overall growth of Ghana’s economy.
In his address, Bawumia said, “We want to establish an Airport City here in Manhyia North so that you will gain the benefits of modern infrastructure and commercial growth. I led the negotiations concerning this airport with the UK government. So, just as we have an Airport City in Accra, we want to have one here in Kumasi.”
The NPP flagbearer encouraged the people of Manhyia North and beyond to support his presidential bid, stressing that his experience and track record in implementing development projects across the country make him the right leader for the job. “If you vote for me, by the grace of God, I can be president for eight years, and I will come back here and give accounts of my work. Promote me, and let me be the president. Give me the steer and let me drive,” he said.
The proposed Airport City project aligns with Bawumia’s broader vision for infrastructure development, which includes modernizing transportation networks and creating economic zones that foster innovation and growth.
He has consistently promised to leverage his business and technical expertise to develop transformative projects that would enhance the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
Bawumia’s campaign in the Ashanti Region has been focused on addressing critical issues such as economic development, job creation, and improving access to essential services.
The promise of an Airport City in Manhyia North is one of several initiatives aimed at revitalizing regional economies and providing opportunities for young people, entrepreneurs, and local businesses.
In the coming weeks, Bawumia is expected to provide further details about his plans for the country’s infrastructure, economic empowerment, and development, as he continues his nationwide campaign in the lead-up to the December 2024 elections.
