Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ghana’s Minister of Education, has revealed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, will prioritize educational reforms that align training programs with the needs of the job market if elected in the December 2024 elections.

During an engagement in Accra, Adutwum stressed the importance of equipping the youth with relevant skills to meet the demands of a rapidly changing workforce. He highlighted that Bawumia’s government will focus on education and training initiatives that ensure young people are adequately prepared for the current job market, fostering both personal growth and national development.
“Dr Bawumia is committed to transforming our education system to ensure that it produces graduates who are ready for the job market. This means focusing on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) as well as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programmes,” Adutwum stated.
He emphasized the importance of developing a curriculum that is adaptable to the evolving needs of industries and businesses.
This would ensure that students are not only academically proficient but also equipped with practical skills that enhance their employability and readiness for the workforce.
Adutwum also outlined plans to strengthen partnerships between educational institutions and the private sector, aiming to create more internship and apprenticeship opportunities for students.
These initiatives, he noted, would bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world job experiences, making it easier for graduates to transition into the workforce successfully.
“By aligning education with the job market, we can reduce unemployment and drive economic growth. Dr. Bawumia’s vision is to create a workforce that is competitive on a global scale and capable of driving innovation and development in Ghana,” Adutwum added.
