Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has issued a strong appeal for unity among fellow aspirants in the party’s presidential primaries, urging them to direct their energies toward the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) rather than engaging in internal attacks.

Speaking to a large crowd of party supporters at the NPP headquarters in Accra after officially filing his nomination on Thursday, August 28, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the party’s strength lies in cohesion and strategic focus.

He cautioned against divisive rhetoric and internal rivalry, which he said could weaken the NPP’s chances in the 2028 general elections.

“For the various candidates contesting the flagbearership, I ask, won’t Ghana and the NPP be better off if, instead of focusing your guns on Bawumia, you focused on holding the government accountable to show that you can lead the NPP in holding the NDC accountable?” he asked.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated that the real political challenge lies outside the party, not within. He called on aspirants to demonstrate leadership by constructively critiquing the current administration and presenting bold, forward-looking solutions for Ghana’s development.

“Our true opponent is not within. Our true opponent is out there. We need unity to win,” he declared.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful campaigning and party harmony, assuring supporters that he would never be a source of conflict within the NPP.

“I promise you, just as you have known me to be, I won’t do anything to bring division or conflict within the party. If there were anyone to create problems within the NPP, it would not be Bawumia,” he stated.

Beyond internal party matters, Dr. Bawumia outlined key elements of his vision for Ghana, with a strong emphasis on economic transformation. He pledged to introduce innovative policies that would stimulate growth, create jobs, and improve livelihoods.

“My vision is to expand the Ghanaian economy through rich ideas that provide incentives and practical measures,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia’s message comes at a critical time as the NPP prepares for its flagbearer election in January 2026. With several high-profile contenders in the race, including Kennedy Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, and Kwabena Agyepong, calls for unity and discipline are expected to shape the tone of the campaign season.
