At the listening party for Kofi Kinaata’s latest EP on May 9, 2024, in Accra, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons commended the artist for consistently creating meaningful music.
Simons emphasized the significance of young artistes producing songs that resonate with the audience.
He praised Kofi Kinaata for exceeding this expectation, saying, “You don’t just write one sensible song in your lifetime, you always deliver sensible songs.”
Simons was particularly impressed by the authentic Highlife elements in Kinaata’s music, highlighting the quality of the rhythms and instrumentation.
He noted, “The incorporation of Highlife music in your songs is remarkable. The use of live bass, which is rare these days, is superb. It’s great to see you’re coming from a place with an authentic kind of rhythm, and what you do with the rhythms and instrumentation is fantastic.”
Kofi Kinaata’s debut EP, ‘Kofi oo Kofi’, was released on May 10, 2024, featuring seven tracks that explore his personal experiences and lessons learned.
The EP was initially set for release on his birthday, April 15. The title ‘Kofi oo Kofi’ is a nod to his Friday birth, as “Kofi” is a traditional name given to males born on Fridays in the Akan culture of Ghana.
