Students at Kassimiyah English-Arabic Junior High School in Bimbilla, Northern Region, now benefit from an improved learning environment following the renovation of their long-neglected three-classroom block, which had been in poor condition for nearly ten years.

As the first Arabic school in the area, Kassimiyah’s deteriorating facilities had led to low enrollment, making the school unattractive to students. To address this, the school’s alumni, working in partnership with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), spearheaded the renovation project to create a better learning space.

In many communities across the country, inadequate school infrastructure remains a significant challenge. Poor learning environments often discourage students, particularly in Arabic schools, which have historically received less attention and support, especially in the Northern Region.

Recently, however, a wave of positive change has been sweeping through Arabic schools in the Nanumba North Municipality, largely due to the appointment of a new coordinator for Arabic schools in the area, Alhaji Abukari Alhassan Safo.

Under Alhaji Safo’s leadership, efforts to engage alumni in supporting their alma maters have gained momentum. As a result, three Arabic junior high schools in Bimbilla, including Kassimiyah, have experienced significant improvements in their facilities.

Opened in 2009, Kassimiyah Junior High School received a three-classroom block in 2011, but over time, the structure fell into disrepair with broken windows and doors. The school, which currently has about 270 students, was in dire need of renovation.

Through the collaborative efforts of Alhaji Safo, the alumni, and the PTA, the classroom block has been fully renovated.

At a brief ceremony to hand over the revamped structure, students expressed their excitement, noting that the improved facilities would enhance their learning experience.

The headmaster also praised the alumni for their intervention, highlighting ongoing challenges at the school and appealing for additional support.
