Zonal constituency executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bimbilla constituency of the Northern Region have raised strong opposition to what they describe as unfair allocations under the Ghana School Feeding Programme.

The group claims that schools initially assigned to them by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nanumba North, Abdul Somed Hamza Gurundow, have been reassigned to individuals from outside the area without explanation.

Speaking to the media, some zonal coordinators insisted they will not allow caterers from outside Bimbilla to take over the feeding programme in their communities unless the decision is reversed.

“We have seen other people presenting appointment letters to the schools. We were informed about the programme earlier, but we have now been sidelined. They have refused to give us our appointment letters. We will not allow outsiders to take over in our communities,” one coordinator said.

Another added, “We will not permit anyone from outside to occupy our slots. We supported the party to win the elections, and we also deserve to benefit from this programme.”

The agitation intensified during a meeting in Bimbilla, where the Northern Regional Coordinator for the School Feeding Programme, John Mahama Cherity, met with caterers. According to the zonal executives, they were shocked to learn that schools earlier allocated to them had been reassigned to people from Tamale and other districts.

“The issue is that schools were allocated to us by zones, but we have now been told we will no longer feed them. No official communication has been given. When we contacted the MCE, he said the matter was beyond him and directed us to the Regional Minister. We have since tried reaching out but have received no response,” one of the disgruntled coordinators lamented.

When approached, the Regional Coordinator for the School Feeding Programme declined to comment on the matter.
