Ghana’s U20 Women’s World Cup campaign got off to a disappointing start, with a 2-1 loss to Austria in their opening match.
Coach Yussif Basigi attributed the defeat to missed opportunities, acknowledging that his team’s slow start and failure to capitalize on scoring chances cost them the game.

Despite dominating play in the second half, the Black Princesses were unable to overcome the early goal conceded to Hannah Fankhauser, which set the tone for the match.
Basigi praised his team’s character and resilience but emphasized the need to improve their finishing.
“We need to work on converting our chances into goals,” he said. “We can’t afford to waste opportunities like we did today.”
Ghana’s struggles in the opening games of the U20 Women’s World Cup continue, with only one win in seven attempts.
However, Basigi remains optimistic, believing his team can bounce back stronger in their upcoming fixtures.
The Black Princesses face a tough test against Japan on Thursday, followed by a match against New Zealand on Sunday.
Basigi is determined to change the narrative of Ghana’s U20 team on the international stage, saying, “We have no choice but to go all out and give it our all in the remaining games.”
The team is chasing their first point in the tournament since 2018, and Basigi is eager to end the drought.
