The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday, August 31, 2025, drew hundreds of enthusiastic supporters to the Boadua Lorry Station in the Akwatia constituency for its final outdoor rally ahead of the much-anticipated September 2 by-election.
The rally, marked by colourful party flags, chants, drumming, and live music, was the climax of weeks of intensive campaigning for the party’s parliamentary candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo.

The event was led by key NDC national figures, including National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, who both delivered spirited addresses. Their messages centred on party unity, confidence in victory, and a promise of tangible development for Akwatia if the NDC wins.
Speaking to the charged crowd, Asiedu Nketiah urged voters to turn out in their numbers on election day, describing the by-election as a crucial opportunity for the people of Akwatia to align with a party committed to progress and accountability.
For his part, Bernard Bediako Baidoo expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from residents. He assured constituents that if elected, he would serve with honesty, accessibility, and dedication, making himself a true representative of the people.
“I will be your voice in Parliament, ensuring Akwatia gets the development it deserves,” he declared to thunderous cheers.
The Akwatia by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, has been fiercely contested, with both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition NDC mobilising heavily. Political analysts describe it as a test of strength for both parties ahead of the 2028 general elections.
