Brazil stunned Spain with a 4-1 victory to reach the women’s football final, where they will play against the United States.

This will be a rematch of the 2008 Olympic final, making for an exciting game in Paris on Saturday.

Brazil took the lead early with an own goal by Irene Paredes and another goal from Gabi Portilho just before halftime, putting Spain on the back foot.

Adriana scored a third goal for Brazil, and although Spain briefly hoped to come back after Duda Sampaio accidentally scored an own goal, Brazil’s Kerolin dashed down the field in the first of 15 added minutes to score Brazil’s fourth goal.

Salma Paralluelo netted a late goal for Spain, but it wasn’t enough to change the result.

Spain will now compete for the bronze medal against Germany in Lyon on Friday at 14:00.

With this victory, Brazil is guaranteed to match their best previous Olympic performance, having won silver in 2004 and 2008, both times losing to the United States.

The final will be a high-stakes match between two of the most successful teams in Olympic women’s football history.
