Lucy Letby, 33, was arrested following a series of baby deaths at the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital in northwest England between June 2015 and June 2016
The 33 years old British nurse, who was convicted of murdering seven newborn babies and attempting to kill six others, faces a life sentence. She will be sentenced on Monday after she was convicted of killing five boys and two girls.
According to the prosecutor, she attacked the prematurely born victims by either injecting them with air, overfeeding them with milk or poisoning them with insulin.
Letby was in tears after she was pronounced guilty by the jury. She was not in court for the final hearing and has reportedly told her lawyer that she will not be attending the sentencing on Monday.
Meanwhile, an agency reports has stated that Letby started her crimes by attacking twins. A baby boy died when he was just one day old even as his sister survived the attempt in 2015.
She was however removed from the neonatal unit and placed on clerical duties after the next incident in 2016, when two triplet brothers died within 24 hours of each other in June 2016. In July 2018, she was arrested for the first time.
On her third arrest in November 2020, Letby was formally charged and placed in custody
Letby was on shift when each of the babies collapsed. Some of the newborns were attacked when their parents left the cots. She also took unusual interest in the families of victims making searches about them on social media. “I am evil I did this” – was one of the handwritten notes that was found at her residence.
