New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has made a staggering revelation about his financial contributions to the party’s 2024 campaign in the Eastern Region.
The former Minister for Food and Agriculture alleged that he personally bankrolled the region’s parliamentary candidates and polling station executives, disbursing an estimated GH¢52 billion in total.
According to Dr. Acheampong, from May to October 2024, he gave GH¢100,000 monthly to each of 27 out of the region’s 33 parliamentary candidates, excluding about six whom he described as “financially independent.”
“In 2020, we were in government, so nobody needed my money. But in 2024, except for about six MPs, I gave the rest GH¢100,000 every month from May to October,” he stated.
He further claimed that in November 2024 alone, he allocated GH¢2 million to each of the 26,000 polling station executives in the region to support campaign activities.
With the NPP’s flagbearer race for the 2028 elections scheduled for January 31, 2026, Dr. Acheampong’s disclosure is likely to intensify political debate. He is among several party heavyweights expected to contest, alongside figures such as former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
