A driver and his mate have been rushed to the Tafo Government Hospital in the Abuakwa North Municipality after they were involved in an accident at Bunso in the early hours on Friday, October 11, 2024.
The driver who was in charge of a DAF XF long vehicle with registration number GW-5959-23 loaded with drinks and food items from Togo and heading to Kumasi is said to have been dosing off when he got to Bunso just after bypassing the CSIR curve close to Bunso Junction.
The truck veered off the road, forcing the driver to lose control of the steering wheel and, in the process, falling onto its side, bringing down a high-tension pole belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Power supply was immediately cut off to prevent fatalities.
Personnel from the Ambulance Service, Ghana Fire Service and Ghana Police Service who were called in to rescue the driver and his mate who were still trapped in the car hurriedly conveyed them to the Tafo Government Hospital for treatment.
Even though engineers of the Begoro ECG have been to the scene this morning for assessment it remains unclear when the ECG pole will be replaced for power to be restored.
