CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup postpone semi-finals

Confederation of African Football (CAF) have postponed the semi-finals of the two flagship club competitions on the continent until further notice in light of the novel coronavirus.

The semi-finals of both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup were scheduled for May but due to the global pandemic, the two competitions have to be put on hold.

Wydad Athletic Club and Al Ahly SC, Zamalek SC and Raja Club Athletic were paired in the last four of the Champions League respectively with the first leg on 1/2 May 2020 and the second leg on 8/9 May 2020.

Pyramids FC were supposed to face Horoya AC whereas Hassania Agadir and RS Berkane meet in a Moroccan derby in the semi-finals of the Confederation Cup with first leg on 3 May 2020 and second leg set for 10 May 2020.

CAF Statement:

In light of growing concerns and evolving nature on COVID-19 amidst lockdown in most countries, the CAF Emergency Committee has decided to postpone the following matches until further notice:

  • Total CAF Champions league and Total CAF Confederation Cup Semi- final matches: Both legs scheduled for the 1-3 May & 8-10 May 2020.
  • FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup Qualifiers: Initially scheduled for 1-3 May and 15-17 May 2020
    A new schedule will be announced in due time.

Meanwhile, CAF is monitoring the situation closely and working with the relevant authorities such as the Wealth Health Organization (WHO) on the impact of the virus on the continent.
