The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially approved the Accra Sports Stadium to host the TotalEnergies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Matchday 3 qualifier between Ghana and Sudan.

In a letter addressed to Ghana Football Association (GFA) General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo (Esq.), CAF stated, “Following a thorough review of the independent inspection reports concerning the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadia, we are pleased to inform you that the Accra Sports Stadium has been approved to host the AFCON Qualifiers for Morocco 2025.

Specifically, it will host the Group F – Match Day 3 encounter between Ghana and Sudan, scheduled for October 11, 2024.”

CAF emphasized the importance of the GFA and stadium management prioritizing necessary enhancements to the pitch and other essential areas of the stadium in preparation for the match day, ensuring an optimal experience for both teams and fans.

They also mentioned that they would continue to monitor the stadium’s readiness for this match and future CAF-sanctioned events.

This match is set for Friday, October 11, 2024. Earlier, on September 11, CAF withdrew its approval for the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi due to technical issues, including an unsuitable playing field.

This raised concerns among football stakeholders about the availability of approved stadiums, which could have forced Ghana to host matches in other countries.

However, with the approval of the Accra Sports Stadium, the Black Stars will be able to play against Sudan at home.
