The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra is spearheading a Prayer Protest Walk against illegal mining, known locally as galamsey.
Before the walk, a special “Service of Preparation” was held early Friday morning, October 11, at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra.

Rev. Father Godwin Fiawoyi, SVD, led the congregation in prayers, seeking divine intervention in the ongoing fight against environmental damage caused by illegal mining.
The service gathered Catholic worshippers from across the city, united in their call to end galamsey.
After the service, participants, including members of the “Crusaders Against Galamsey” group, assembled on the cathedral grounds, holding placards demanding an end to environmental destruction.
The protest walk, under police supervision, is set to pass through designated routes in Accra.
