Several cement retailers have voiced their support for the recent enactment of the Legislative Instrument (LI) designed to regulate cement prices.

They believe the new law will offer much-needed relief and stability for their businesses.

The LI officially became law after a 21-day review period, despite opposition from cement manufacturers and parts of the public. It was introduced in Parliament on July 2 by the Minister of Trade and Industry, K.T. Hammond.

Although some industry stakeholders opposed the regulation, it was enacted following the mandatory review period.

In interviews with Channel One News, retailers in Accra shared their views on the new regulation.

Cement retailer Vida Okyere highlighted its importance, stating that the LI would help stabilize prices and enable retailers to manage their operations more effectively.

Okyere explained that price increases had previously led customers to buy less, which affected sales and construction projects.

Retailer Fred Andoh also noted the positive impact the LI will have on their operations.

Emmanuel Cherry, Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Construction and Industry, mentioned that discussions with the Trade Minister about the LI would continue.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Cement Manufacturers in Ghana has yet to comment on the passage of the LI.
