The Central Regional Minister, Eduamoah Okyere Ekow Panyin, has hinted at a possible scale-down of staff at the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly due to underperformance.

According to the minister, the assembly’s current staff strength of 154 does not match its output, despite being higher than that of the Regional Coordinating Council. He noted that the assembly falls short in critical areas such as revenue mobilisation, sanitation improvement, and spatial management.

During a working visit to the assembly, the minister instructed the Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, to monitor staff activities over the next two weeks and identify non-performing personnel for possible transfer. He further directed that future postings to the assembly be rigorously scrutinised to ensure that staff assignments align with performance needs.

The Minister said the exercise will be extended to other Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region to optimise staff efficiency.

“We are aware that some of you are not working because you feel that in your absence, there will be someone to cover for you. Some of you have decided to run shifts, even after the government ended the shift system in schools.

“Identify the strengths of the individuals before assigning them to a department. Do not just place people to waste space and state resources.

“In the next two weeks, we will monitor the activities of the various departments to determine whether staff numbers justify output. When we find personnel whose services are not needed, we will immediately redeploy them to areas where they are required.”
