Former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah, has called on the government to address teachers’ concerns with urgency and seriousness.

She criticized the government for its lack of sensitivity and urged it to promptly resolve issues raised by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) to ensure that students’ education continues uninterrupted.

She points out that the ongoing strike is adversely affecting students at the colleges of education and stresses the need for the government to act swiftly.

“The government must be “serious with teachers,” they have to find the money to pay them because it is an agreement,” Nana Yaa Januah said on the Big Issue on TV3 on Thursday, July 25.

She stressed, “What is due these teachers should be given to them, it is not good for any government to act after the strike.”

Meanwhile, Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has stated that the government has made significant progress in addressing the issues that led to the CETAG strike.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Wednesday, July 24, following a stakeholder engagement, the Minister remarked, “We have made great progress and achieved significant strides.”

The strike by CETAG began after the government decided to withhold their July salary.
