The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has called on the Ministry of Education to release outstanding funds essential for the smooth operation of Senior High Schools (SHSs) in Ghana, as schools prepare to reopen for the 2025 academic year.
In a communiqué signed by CHASS National Secretary Primus Baro, the association highlighted previous correspondences from September 20, 2024, and August 12, 2024, along with assurances made by the Minister of Education during a Zoom meeting on December 18, 2024, which have yet to be acted upon.

CHASS pointed out that the government’s outstanding arrears for perishable items, unpaid utility bills, and other expenses are severely impacting SHS operations.
The association stressed that these funds are crucial for ensuring schools can reopen on January 3, 2025. Without them, school heads will face significant challenges in delivering quality education, maintaining infrastructure, and ensuring students’ well-being.
CHASS is, therefore, urging the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to prioritise the release of the funds to ensure a smooth operation.
