Chelsea have completed the signing of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal for £20.7 million on a seven-year contract.

The 22-year-old Dane joins the Blues after making 37 appearances for Villarreal last season, where he established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

“This move is a dream come true,” Jorgensen said. “I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can’t wait to get to know everyone and to start playing with all my new team-mates.”

Jorgensen will compete for the number-one spot with Robert Sanchez, who was Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper last season until injuries gave Serbia’s Dorde Petrović a chance to step in. Kepa Arizabalaga, returning from a loan spell at Real Madrid, is also part of Chelsea’s goalkeeper roster.

Although born in Sweden, Jorgensen represents Denmark at the Under-21 level. He joined Villarreal’s youth academy at the age of 15 and made his senior debut for the B team in October 2020. He made his La Liga debut in January 2023.

Jorgensen is with Chelsea on their pre-season tour in the United States and might play in the upcoming games against Club America, Manchester City, or Real Madrid.

Chelsea starts their Premier League season at home against Manchester City on Sunday, August 18.
