Chidimma Adetshina, who withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant due to harassment over her nationality, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria.
On Saturday, August 31, Ms. Adetshina was overwhelmed with emotion as she was named Miss Universe Nigeria.

“This crown is not just for beauty; it’s a call for unity. I am truly proud and grateful to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe, and I believe we will win,” said the 23-year-old law student.
She was invited to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria following her departure from the Miss South Africa pageant due to the nationality dispute.
Adetshina will represent Nigeria at the global Miss Universe pageant in Mexico this November.
Some individuals in South Africa questioned her eligibility for the Miss South Africa pageant due to her complex background. Despite being a South African citizen, Adetshina’s father is Nigerian, and her mother has Mozambican roots.
Adetshina was born in Soweto, near Johannesburg, and grew up in Cape Town.
The controversy over her nationality led to an investigation by Miss South Africa organizers, who requested the nation’s home affairs department review her eligibility.
The department’s initial findings suggested that Adetshina’s mother might have engaged in “identity theft” to secure South African nationality.
