A cholera outbreak in Kasoa has tragically resulted in five deaths, with 30 others currently receiving treatment at Kasoa Polyclinic and Mother and Child Hospital.

Anita Love Obo Amissah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Awutu Senya East, confirmed the fatalities, noting that three individuals passed away on Thursday afternoon, with two more deaths following on Friday.

Concerned about the outbreak’s potential spread, MCE Amissah advised Kasoa residents to stay alert, maintain cleanliness, and prioritize healthy eating habits.

She added that some cases had been referred from neighboring constituencies, such as Awutu Senya West and Gomoa East, and called for a unified response to control the situation.

“Five deaths have been confirmed due to the outbreak. The Kasoa Polyclinic and Mother and Child Hospital have worked hard to manage the cases. I urge Kasoa residents to take precautions, including healthy eating.

I understand the hospitals have recalled staff on leave to help manage the situation. Referrals from Awutu Senya West and Gomoa East have raised the death toll to five, with 30 still admitted,” she stated.

Awutu Senya East Municipal Environmental Officer Godson Lodo also highlighted preventive measures, urging residents and traders, especially market vendors, to maintain cleanliness.

He emphasized that food vendors should serve hot meals to minimize contamination risk.

“I urge market women to keep their areas clean, and food vendors to serve hot food at all times. Maintaining a clean environment is essential to prevent the spread,” he advised.
