Clement Ike Quartey, Ghana’s first-ever Olympic medalist, has passed away at the age of 86 on November 2nd in the United Kingdom.
His death was confirmed by sources at the Ghana Boxing Authority.

Clement was the older brother of the legendary Ghanaian former World Champion, Ike “Bazooka” Quartey.
Quartey gained prominence by representing Ghana at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, where he competed in the Light Welterweight category.

His silver medal not only made him the first Ghanaian to achieve this honor but also the first Black African to win an Olympic medal.
He further cemented his legacy by winning a Gold medal at the 1962 Commonwealth Games in Perth, Australia.
