Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused the Clerk of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, of partisanship following a heated clash between the Majority and Minority caucuses.

The tension erupted during the vetting of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, as both sides disagreed on whether to proceed with the session or reschedule it.

Addressing journalists, Afenyo-Markin accused the Clerk of favoring the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in her conduct.

“The nominees—where we need to ask questions, we will. Nothing will stop us from asking the necessary questions. Some nominees spend just five minutes. The NDC always resorts to intimidation and bullying, and we will not tolerate it.

“They can call us micro-minority or say whatever they want, but we have cooperated with them. The Clerk to the Committee is blatantly partisan—a typical NDC supporter who aligns with their interests and even informs people to attend sessions. On January 29, without any agreement or meeting, she advertised at 10 p.m.,” he claimed.

The clash intensified when the Minority proposed postponing the vetting to Friday, citing procedural concerns. However, the Majority rejected the request, insisting the vetting proceed as planned.

The disagreement quickly escalated into chaos, with Minority members disrupting the session by breaking tables and microphones in an attempt to halt proceedings.

Despite the disorder, the Majority maintained that the committee was following its established schedule and insisted that the vetting proceed without interruption.

In response to the unrest, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga intervened, suspending the vetting and officially rescheduling it for Friday, January 31.
