The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has reactivated its plan for a nationwide strike, set to begin on Thursday, February 20, 2025, following the continued stay of Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, despite government assurances of intervention.

In a communication to all regional offices referencing an earlier letter dated February 13, 2025, CLOGSAG reaffirmed its stance, directing members to prepare for industrial action.

“The strike is on!” the statement declared, emphasizing the association’s firm commitment to its demands.

The government had earlier announced Mr. Botchway’s reassignment after strong opposition from CLOGSAG. On February 14, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, assured that the issue had been resolved and that there would be no strike. However, CLOGSAG’s latest move suggests dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the matter.

However, despite this assurance, CLOGSAG maintains that Mr. Botchway is still in office. Reports indicate that he represented the Births and Deaths Registry at a budget hearing at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs on February 17, 2025, prompting the association to reconsider its decision to hold off on the strike.

Following this, CLOGSAG has called on all its members to remain resolute and fully prepared for the industrial action on Thursday, emphasizing its determination to push for compliance with its demands.
