The Minority in Parliament has invited Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, to participate in a debate on the 2024 mid-year budget, which was presented by Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam on July 23.

They believe the debate will give Dr. Bawumia a chance to address his views on the current economic conditions and the challenges faced by Ghanaians.
In a press release dated July 24 and signed by Deputy Minority Whip Ahmed Ibrahim, it was announced that the debate is scheduled to take place on July 25.
The statement highlighted that parliamentary rules permit a sitting Vice President to engage in debates within the House.
The NDC MPs argue that this debate will allow Dr. Bawumia to justify his role as Chairman of the Economic Management Team over the past seven and a half years and address the effects of his leadership on the nation’s economy.
“Pursuant to the Vice President’s recent call for a debate on the economy, this invitation presents Alhaji Bawumia an excellent opportunity and forum to debate and account for his stewardship over the last seven and a half years (7.5 years) as Chairman of the Economic Management Team.
The NDC Minority has assembled a team of highly skilled and knowledgeable members to debate Vice President Bawumia and further highlight the government’s poor economic performance,” the statement read.
It continued, “Given that this administration has severely impacted Ghana’s economy, pushed 33.3% of the population into extreme poverty, and left about two million Ghanaians facing acute food and nutrition insecurity, according to the World Bank, as well as the fact that approximately 35% of Ghana’s youth are unemployed (the highest rate in the Fourth Republic), the Minority finds it perplexing that Alhaji Bawumia still has the nerve to call for a debate on the economy.”
