Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Majority Leader in Parliament, is advocating for immediate reforms to enhance the company’s operations.
Speaking to the media after the appointment of an acting Managing Director, Afenyo-Markin expressed confidence in ECG, stating that effective management and proper communication with external stakeholders could lead to significant improvements.

In addressing criticism regarding the company’s performance over the years, he acknowledged that substantial work is still needed but emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach.
“I recognize that we need to work together for reforms, both from within and externally. I believe ECG can become highly efficient if we commit to these reforms.
This will require engaging all internal stakeholders and communicating effectively with those outside the company. It’s a collective effort, and I’m not in favor of the blame game where the public blames us and we blame the public.”
Afenyo-Markin also assured that the resignation of the former Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama, will not impact the power supply.
“The board has received the support of management in its decision and we are here to assure you that the fact that we have had changes in management will not mean that you are going to have some interrupted power supply. The entire system of the company is in place and the company will continue to provide the essential services that it provides for Ghanaians and the country.”
