The Coalition of Concerned Nzema People has warned that it may take legal action against the government over the planned private sector-led petroleum hub project.

The threat comes after their petition to the Office of the Presidency, which contested the acquisition of 20,000 acres of land by the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation for the project, was rejected.

Despite the objections, the Presidency has confirmed that the sod-cutting ceremony for the project will proceed as scheduled.

In response, Isaac Kojo Ndede, an Executive Member of the Coalition, stated that they will pursue legal action if their concerns are not addressed by the government.

If you have to consult, is it somebody who does not own even an acre of the land that you have to consult or you have to maybe pass through him to get the right people and engage them? You see when you do first-class engagement and avoid the right people in the villages, do you expect that they will allow you to go scout-free and get the land?

“The way these things are being handled is what we are challenging and we are telling them that that is not the best way. If nothing at all, the best way is to seek legal action and that one is a must.”
