The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has compared himself to a ‘retired general’ returning to lead Ghana through its current economic and social challenges.

Speaking to a gathering of clergy in the Ashanti Region on Monday, November 11, Mahama called for support and prayers as he presented his vision for the country’s recovery amid its pressing difficulties.

Reflecting on the state of the nation, Mahama voiced deep concerns over Ghana’s struggling economy, rising debt, and the widespread hardships faced by citizens.

He stressed that overcoming these crises would require a collective effort from all sectors of society, with a particular emphasis on unity, commitment, and prayer.

“The road to recovery will not be easy, but I am confident that with the support of the people of Ghana and the guidance of the clergy, we can overcome these challenges. We must all come together and work toward national healing and progress,” Mahama urged.

The former president emphasized that his leadership would focus on stabilizing the economy, restoring jobs, and addressing the fundamental issues affecting Ghanaians.

His call for national unity and prayer underscored his belief in the power of collective action to guide the country through difficult times.

“When you take a critical look at where we are as a country, and our economy, you will conclude that things are not going well. Especially in our economy, people are struggling and we are in heavy debt. In all this, we have to thank God that we are still alive. As the adage goes, once there is a will, there is a way. So, your prayers will be required for us to repair this crisis in this country.

“If you take the military, when the war gets tough, sometimes retired generals are brought back to come and lead the battle. So, consider me as one of the retired generals who is brought back to lead the battle. So, I will perform my responsibilities to bring the country back on track,” he stated.
