Businessman Gabriel Atokple Kwamigah Tanko has been elected as the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, securing 24 out of 36 votes in an election held on February 11, 2025, at the OLA Senior High School Assembly Hall.

The contest featured 13 candidates, but Mr. Tanko emerged with a clear victory. Voting commenced at 9:50 AM after initial agitations, concluding with Mr. Tanko decisively winning the race.
Following his victory, Mr. Tanko pledged to harness the Volta Region’s economic potential to drive development and effectively represent the region on the Council of State.
Meanwhile, some candidates have accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of swaying delegates’ votes.
