An independent parliamentary candidate in Agona West, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, has been barred by a District Magistrate Court in Agona Swedru from presenting herself as a candidate in the 2024 elections.

The court instructed Morrison to halt any involvement in the nomination process for the Member of Parliament position for the Agona West Constituency.
This ruling came after plaintiffs Emmanuel Addison, Solomon Nyarko, and Harrison K. Aglago filed a lawsuit against Morrison and the Electoral Commission of Agona Swedru.
Lawyer Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers successfully argued for an injunction, preventing Morrison from continuing her campaign until the court fully resolves the case.
The court stated that Morrison is restrained from holding herself as a parliamentary candidate, and the Electoral Commission is prohibited from proceeding with her nomination as an independent candidate until the case is decided.
Cynthia Morrison, who previously won the seat on the NPP’s ticket in 2016 and 2020, decided to run independently after losing the 2024 NPP primaries, alleging favoritism and lack of transparency in the selection process.
