Abraham Amaliba, the Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that the Court of Appeal’s ruling on July 30, which acquitted and discharged Minority Leader Dr. Ato Forson, has spared the government and the Attorney General from further embarrassment.

Amaliba’s remarks followed the court’s decision to uphold Dr. Forson’s appeal for a submission of no case.
Speaking on Citi Prime News, Amaliba criticized the government’s handling of the situation, referencing previous controversies involving the Attorney General.
He also suggested that the ruling prevented potential confusion for the trial judge.
Furthermore, Amaliba criticized the Attorney General for causing financial loss to the state by refusing to enforce a contract that involved a payment of €2 million and the return of vehicles, which he claimed was a missed opportunity for the state.
“On the government and the Attorney General, I think this ruling has saved that government and the attorney general further embarrassment. Don’t forget the embarrassment that took place a few weeks ago when it came to light that the Attorney General was the one who was coaching Jakpa to come to court to say certain things. So, it has saved them from further embarrassment.
“I think that thirdly, this ruling of the court of appeal has also saved the trial judge from any confusion that was in her mind concerning how to deal with the matter. So, I think that on the whole, it is the state that has lost.
“Don’t forget that the company that entered the contract with the people of Ghana had agreed to pay the €2 million and take back their vehicles but the Attorney General refused and so at the end of the day the attorney general has caused financial loss for the state,” he stated.
