Parents of candidates whose WASSCE results were withheld by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) have successfully secured a court order for the release of the results.

A total of 10,520 students had their results withheld by WAEC, who had asked them to respond to allegations that led to the decision. However, the parents challenged WAEC’s action in the High Court, arguing that it was unreasonable.
Martin Kpebu, the lawyer representing the parents, stated that WAEC could not justify the reasons for withholding the results. He further explained that the examination body had failed to identify the specific misconduct committed by the students.
“WAEC does not have any charge against any of them. Per the constitution, administrative bodies cannot act like that. If they say someone has been involved in an examination malpractice or irregularities, be specific.
“To date, all these candidates, WAEC has not been able to pin a single charge on them,” he said.
