The West African Regional Director of CUTS International, Appiah Kusi Adomako, has called on MultiChoice Ghana to open dialogue with the National Communications Authority (NCA) following the regulator’s 30-day suspension notice.

On Thursday, August 7, the NCA announced its intention to suspend MultiChoice Ghana’s authorisation to operate its Subscription Management Service for Satellite Television Broadcasting, giving the company 30 days to respond and regularise its operations.

Mr. Adomako stressed the importance of constructive engagement between the two parties to safeguard both national and corporate interests.

“Having discussions on a common ground that will help the two parties will be the best way forward for Ghana and MultiChoice. If MultiChoice leaves Ghana, it will affect government revenue and lead to job losses. On the side of MultiChoice, they are also going to suffer serious financial issues,” he said.

He urged MultiChoice to make full use of the 30-day window to present its proposals to the government for review and possible compromise.

“Now that they are to work within 30 days, they should put their offer before the government for consideration,” he added.
