Cynthia Morrison, the Member of Parliament for Agona West, has denied any involvement of her supporters in the gunfire incident that took place during a campaign rally on Sunday, October 28.

In an interview with Citi News’ Central Regional Correspondent, Calvis Tetteh, Morrison stressed that her supporters were not responsible for the shooting, which injured one person and created panic among attendees.

The incident occurred when supporters of Chris Arthur, a parliamentary hopeful from the NPP, were returning from a campaign launch in Otinkorang.

They crossed paths with Morrison’s supporters, who were holding a mini-rally at Agona Nyankrom.

A gun was fired during the encounter, injuring Haruna Rashid, Arthur’s campaign manager, who sustained a gunshot wound to his ribs and was taken to Agona Swedru Government Hospital, along with others who suffered minor injuries in the chaos.

Morrison stated that she was unaware of the gunfire at the time, noting that she did not hear it and only learned about the incident later.

The Central Regional Police Command has initiated an investigation into the matter, and Morrison expressed her hope for a swift resolution without further violence.

In the meantime, heightened tensions have prompted concerns among residents and party supporters in Agona West, leading to calls for peaceful campaigning as the elections approach.
